“You can’t design in a vacuum. It’s important to find out what the community wants.”
Beckie Denio enjoys the puzzle of architecture. She likes the technical challenge of making things fit. Is it a surprise that she does jigsaw puzzles in her spare time? Putting together a puzzle is much like putting together a building – you have to pay attention to the details to figure out how the pieces fit.
Most of Beckie’s career has been spent working on developer projects, but she had the opportunity to work on a public library several years ago and loved it. It matters to her that the projects she’s working on have a positive impact on people and their communities.
As a mother of twins, much of Beckie’s time outside of work is spent with her children. Both kids play Ultimate Frisbee, and she recently joined a women’s ultimate team with other moms. It’s her first time playing a team sport, but with her ‘can do’ attitude and quiet competence, we know she’ll be a great addition. It’s not easy competing against women almost half your age, but then again, what’s life without a little challenge?
