La Capilla del Rosario de la Santa Cruz Santa Cruz Island, California As this historic chapel at the Main Ranch on Santa Cruz Island neared its 100th anniversary, the Santa Cruz Island Foundation initiated a complete seismic rehabilitation and restoration. Badly cracked by earthquakes, the unreinforced masonry walls were pressure-grouted and tied down to new footings. The roof was replaced with new wood, steel, and concrete reinforcing to stabilize the structure. Interior finishes were completely restored, including the individual re-painting of over a thousand gilded stars in their original locations on the ceilings. With the exterior finishes also cleaned and re-painted, the entire chapel has been restored to its original appearance. < Previous ProjectNext Project >
