Pinole Community Center
Pinole, California
Located on a 6.3-acre ranch with a historic farmhouse in the center of the city, the site for the City of Pinole's new Community Center campus had plentiful natural features such as stream habitat and numerous large trees. Noll & Tam Architects, in association with BSA Architects, worked carefully to preserve these features while adding approximately 50,000 square feet of new construction. The new center includes a gymnasium with a weight room, fitness center and aerobics studio; a community center with spaces for meeting rooms, classrooms, day care, computer lab, museum, and administrative offices; a separate youth center; a multi-purpose conference facility building; and a commercial building. The project required intense coordination and review with City of Pinole staff, the Architectural Review Board, and a 30-member community center planning committee composed of council members, seniors, youth and a cross-section of interested citizens.
