Hayward Library & Community Learning Center

A highly sustainable building in the heart of downtown

Located on an urban site adjacent to the City’s main downtown park, this three-story library will be an innovative resource for Hayward's diverse community. The library includes expanded classrooms and educational spaces for an adult learning center and a homework center. When completed, it is expected to be the largest Net Zero Energy public library in the country and includes a rainwater catchment system that will save and recycle 400,000 gallons of water per year. In terms of design, sustainability, and service delivery, this will truly be a 21st Century Library.

“It’s mind-blowing to realize now that Hayward is not only building the largest Net Zero Energy public library in the nation, but that we arrived at this outcome through a comprehensive, community-wide stakeholder engagement design process.”
