John F. Kennedy Park Revitalization

A community build that made this park Richmond’s own

We worked with The Trust for Public Land on a project to rehabilitate this neglected park through a “community-build” approach: an all-city call to action, enlisting volunteers of all ages to make visible, inspiring change in a single day—an urban barn raising. Our firm provided design services for the refurbishment of the architectural elements, in particular the repurposing of an existing pavilion structure, once the social hub of the park. The fast and furious rebuild day was the culmination of months of planning. Ultimately, the pavilion was designed to become a STEM outdoor classroom during the week, and a flexible community outdoor room for weekend events.
