Overview
The Town of Los Gatos is soliciting qualifications from artists for individual artworks for a new 30,000 square foot, two-story library with associated parking lots, plazas, and landscaped areas. The new library site is immediately adjacent to the Town's Civic Center. The new facility will be situated at the foot of the steep hillside at the rear of the site, and will reinforce strong pedestrian and visual connections between Main Street, the Civic Center, the Library and Pageant Park. It will also preserve mature trees throughout the site and enhance the park-like atmosphere.

Vision
The Town's vision is to create a library for the 21st century that is adaptable to changing library service needs over the next fifty years, while remaining accessible and welcoming to users. Services will include an expanded book collection, areas for children and teens, a local history center, a technology center, greatly increased public computer resources, group study rooms, a Friends of the Library book store, and a cafe.

Budget
Funds allocated for this art project are estimated at $140,000, to be divided among multiple projects at the committee's discretion.

Selection Process
The Art Selection Panel will consist of the Los Gatos Library Building Council Subcommittee and the Architects. The Architects will coordinate the process.

• Phase 1: Artists will submit statements of qualifications and letters of interest. The selection panel will meet and create an approved pool of artists, and select up to ten (10) finalist artists based upon their qualifications and statements of interest.
• Phase 2: Each finalist will be asked to prepare a specific proposal for an artwork in a specific location in the library or on the site. Artists will be requested to present their proposals to the selection committee. All finalists will be paid a small stipend upon submission of a credible proposal and presentation to the committee. The selection panel may conduct studio visits.
