Announcing the Completion of the new
Marine Mammal Center, Sausalito, California

Noll & Tam Architects in association with Design Architect Scott Dennis announce the completion of The Marine Mammal Center, a 24-hour animal rescue and rehabilitation facility located in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Our design response was inspired by environmental responsibility and the adaptive re-use of a decommissioned NIKE Air Missile launch site. We consolidated the center’s animal care pens and pools with the administrative, educational, and operations programs, introducing new buildings into the existing fabric. The facility celebrates the site’s rich history and physical beauty while dissolving the separation between the indoor and outdoor elements. Visitors can witness real-time operations through viewing nodes into the buildings and from viewing platforms overlooking the treatment areas.

Solar Shade Panels: Provide comfort for the mammals while saving and generating electricity
Building Design: Ensures comfort of staff and visitors through sustainable design
Adaptive Reuse of Silos: Uses existing resources in a creative manner, rather than building new
Building Materials: Durable and recycled construction materials
Site and Landscape: Integrates the Center into the natural setting
