From Interstate 80 take the Ashby exit. At the first traffic light turn left onto 7th Street. Drive three blocks and turn left onto Heinz Avenue (the second traffic light). Enter the driveway at 729 and follow the signs towards the back left corner of the site, around the corner of the building.

Noll & Tam Architects is a 28-person architectural firm in Berkeley. Our firm’s primary specialty is in public projects:  libraries, community centers, recreation facilities, fire and police facilities, city halls, etc.  Another focus is on higher educational facilities for public and private colleges and universities.  Most of our work is located in the greater Bay Area, and most projects range in size from $3-20 million. Our main offices are in a light and spacious converted industrial building in West Berkeley.  Our working environment is team-based, cooperative, and friendly.  We are a design-oriented firm whose goal is to make significant contributions to our community through our work.

Intern/Junior Designer

The Intern/Junior Designer position will focus on drafting, design, and support of project teams through product research, model making, etc, but will also include administrative support tasks. We are looking for a versatile, hardworking and reliable team player who is well organized and has good communication skills. We will assist with Intern Development Program documentation.

Requirements for the position include:
Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in Architecture, experience with AutoCAD and hand drawing skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills highly valued. Aptitude with Microsoft Office, 3D modeling and graphics software recommended, Revit a plus.



Project Architect/Senior Technical Designer

10+ Years of Experience Required
This is a full-time position
Responsibilities include:
  • Participating on design teams
  • Leadership role in the technical production of drawings, details, and specifications during design development and construction documents phases
  • Quality assurance
  • Coordination of design approach
  • Consultant team coordination
  • Construction Administration
  • Being a technical resource to and mentoring other staff

Requirements for the position include:
  • Professional architectural degree
  • California registration
  • Minimum 10 years technically-oriented experience in a US architectural office (CA preferred)
  • Significant recent experience with public sector projects, DSA experience preferred
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects, set priorities and maintain schedules
  • Strong working knowledge of the California Building Code
  • Familiarity with Type I, II, V construction types
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Project
  • Experience with public building projects similar to those in our practice
  • Experience coordinating the consultant team
  • Ability to research and assemble product and building system information
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Specifications consultant
  • Willingness to be a mentor to junior staff, and provide guidance and assistance
  • Interest in improving overall office production efficiency
  • Familiarity with online construction administration programs such as Prolog or Buzzsaw a plus
  • Experience with design-build project teams a plus


Interiors Architect

3-5 Years of Experience Required
This is a full-time position
Responsibilities include:
  • Participatory role on design teams
  • Production of drawings, details and supporting visual materials during all phases of design
  • Construction Administration support
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture
  • 3 years’ minimum experience in a U.S. architectural office, California preferred
  • AutoCAD fluency
  • Strong design and detailing experience
  • Finish and furniture specifications experience (including working with vendors)
  • Material reference and library sourcing
  • Knowledge of the California Building Code and ADA
  • Experience with public building projects similar to those in our practice
  • Commitment to sustainable design and environmental responsibility
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects, set priorities and maintain schedules
  • Strong communication and writing skills
Extra Credit for:
  • Graphic software skills (Adobe Acrobat, InDesign, Photoshop, etc.)
  • REVIT experience
  • 3D CAD modeling capability
  • Free-hand sketching ability
